Special Containment Procedures:
SCP-008 is to be contained within a sealed, airtight containment chamber at Bio-Research Area-12. The containment chamber must be constructed of reinforced steel and lined with heat-resistant material to withstand high temperatures. Access to SCP-008's containment area is restricted to Level 4 personnel or higher, and all personnel entering the containment area must undergo thorough decontamination procedures upon exiting.
SCP-008 samples are to be handled and stored in accordance with biohazard containment protocols, with all research conducted within the containment area requiring Level 4 clearance and the approval of Site Command. SCP-008 is to be stored in a secure refrigeration unit maintained at a temperature of -10°C to prevent its decay and spread.
In the event of a containment breach, Protocol Omega-8 is to be initiated, involving the activation of on-site incendiary devices to sterilize the area and neutralize SCP-008-infected individuals. Any personnel exposed to SCP-008 must be quarantined immediately, and standard medical procedures for containing infectious diseases must be followed.
Description:
SCP-008 is a highly contagious prion disease with a 100% mortality rate in infected individuals. The disease is transmitted through direct contact with bodily fluids, including blood, saliva, and tissue, as well as through aerosolized particles and contaminated surfaces.
SCP-008 causes rapid cellular necrosis and breakdown of bodily tissues, resulting in the deterioration and liquefaction of the infected individual's body. Symptoms of SCP-008 infection include fever, fatigue, and flu-like symptoms, followed by severe neurological and physiological deterioration leading to death within 48 hours of exposure.
Infected individuals will eventually reanimate as aggressive, cannibalistic entities designated as SCP-008-1 instances. SCP-008-1 instances display minimal brain function and are driven solely by a primal urge to consume living flesh. SCP-008-1 instances are highly resilient to physical trauma and can continue to function despite severe injuries.
SCP-008 was initially discovered in [REDACTED], where it had caused a widespread outbreak resulting in significant casualties. Foundation agents successfully contained the outbreak and established containment procedures to prevent further spread of the disease.
Research into SCP-008's origins and potential cures is ongoing, but due to its highly contagious and lethal nature, all research is conducted with extreme caution and under strict containment protocols.
